THE LIVING BYLAWS STUDIO
Draft Bylaws that work as hard as you do
A structured workshop experience for nonprofit leaders ready to transform vague and confusing bylaws into a clear, usable governance blueprint that truly reflects how your organization operates.
Spring cohort begins April 30. Limited seats.
When Bylaws Don't Reflect Reality, Everyone Pays the Price
Outdated or misaligned governance documents don't just sit in a drawer; they quietly undermine your board's authority, expose your organization to risk, and leave leaders second-guessing every decision.
Decision-making stalls because no one knows what the bylaws actually authorize, or who has the final word.
Staff and board members operate without confidence, creating inconsistency that puts your mission at risk.
When governance issues arise, you have no clear process for resolving them because your bylaws don't address your real situation.
Operational practices have drifted so far from what's documented that following your own bylaws feels impossible.
Outdated governance structures invite legal liability you may not even know you're carrying.
Authority is undefined. When something goes wrong, everyone looks at each other. No one knows who decides.
WHAT YOU’LL GAIN
Governance that reflects your organization’s reality
The Living Bylaws Studio is built on one core belief: your bylaws should describe how your organization actually operates, not how someone else's did ten years ago.
Clear bylaws aligned with how your board and staff actually function day to day
Streamlined decision-making authority so your board governs with confidence and clarity
A working draft ready for full board review and adoption, not just a template
Increased confidence in your governance structures among board members, staff, and funders
Legal grounding you can rely on when governance challenges arise
WHAT’S INCLUDED
Everything you need to draft, adopt, and govern
☑️ Pre-Workshop Materials
Orientation resources and assessment tools to help you identify governance gaps before your first session, so your time in the workshop counts.
☑️ Five Live Workshop Sessions and Office Hours
Small-group, interactive sessions with step-by-step guidance from a nonprofit attorney. Ask real questions about your real governance challenges.
☑️ Board Adoption Roadmap
A clear path for presenting, discussing, and formally adopting your revised bylaws, including what to expect and how to manage the process.
☑️ A Working Bylaws Draft
You won't leave with a template — you'll leave with a working draft customized to your organization, ready for board review and adoption.
☑️ Legal Grounding & Context
Every session is led by a licensed nonprofit attorney. You'll understand not just what your bylaws say, but why it matters legally and operationally.
☑️ Community of Practice
You're not alone in this. Connect with a cohort of nonprofit leaders navigating the same governance questions — before, during, and after the workshop.

Common Questions
Is this legal advice?
No. The Living Bylaws Studio is a legal education and governance consulting workshop. It does not create an attorney-client relationship. If you need legal representation, we're happy to discuss your options.
Who should attend?
Your purchase entitles up to three people from your organization to participate. We encourage a designated member of leadership and the board to participate together. Shared understanding makes adoption much smoother.
Is this right for a brand-new organization?
Absolutely. If you're in the founding or early stage, building strong governance from the start is one of the best investments you can make for your organization's future.
What is your refund policy?
Full refunds are available up to fourteen (14) days before the cohort start date.
Because enrollment is capped and seats are reserved, refunds are not available after that date. Participants may request a credit toward a future workshop or service in lieu of a refund.
Do I need to bring my current bylaws?
Yes, if you have them. We work with what you have. Even if your bylaws are outdated or incomplete, they're the right starting point for the process.
What if I can't attend a live session?
We strongly encourage live attendance because the curriculum is sequential and each session builds on the previous one. But we understand life happens.
Sessions are recorded and stored for up to three months after the program ends.
